CO-CO TRAP

Back ground

It aims at management of pest through control in increase of pest population in coconut plantations as pest/insects get trapped and die hence cannot reproduce thus lowering pest incidence even for years to come.

Technology description(Technical)

It uses pheromone lure as bait which is directed towards a particular insect only, which produces smell of female insect to which the male gets attracted and are trapped.

How it is women friendly?

    It is chemical free, as women does all house chores thus are greatly exposed to get poisoned and poison their family due to physical contact with pesticides, it nullifies threat to health.

Performance:

    Four to six Co-Co traps with lures which last 25-30 can be placed in one acre area, which has been found to be significantly helpful in reducing the pest population

  • Reduce use of chemical based pesticides.
  • Reduces health risks associated with chemicals.

Limitations if any

    Once the RPW and RB beetle has bored into the coconut trunk it is very hard to control the pest as egg laying, cocoon and caterpillar stage spans inside the trunk of the tree.
