Workshop on Reaching Farm Women through Media

A one day Workshop on “Reaching Farm Women through Media” was conducted on 4th January, 2017 at ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar. The workshop was organized under Outreach project of ICAR-CIWA and comprised of representatives from different media sectors working towards empowering women in agriculture and scientists of the institute. It was a very enriching event for bringing together and sharing of experiences in order to highlight the role of media for outreaching farm women. 30 participants from ICAR-CIWA and other media sectors had participated. Dr. S. D. Argade welcomed the participants followed by programme overview by Dr Sabita Mishra, Principal Scientist and principal investigator of Outreach project. Director, ICAR-CIWA, Dr. Jatinder Kishtwaria, delivered keynote address highlighting the need of linkage between media and ICAR-CIWA for effective transfer of technology and dissemination of information for women. There were four deliberations. At first Dr Laxmi Priya Sahoo presented the overview of ICAR-CIWA activities and achievements followed by a presentation from Dr Shishir Kumar Dash, Community Radio Asssociation of India reflecting role of community radio in approaches for dissemination of women friendly technologies. From Electronic Media, Radio Kissan, Khurda; Radio Surabhi, Nayagarh; Radio Sanskar, Jagatsinghpur Naxtra News and DoorDarshan, Bhubaneswar; Pratidin, Samaj, Dharitri, Suryaprava, Samay, Manthan and Pramya, from Print Media Bhubaneswar contributed immensely in putting forth their ideas regarding dissemination of information related to women empowerment and livelihood. Dr Sabita Mishra from ICAR-CIWA presented selected technologies and models developed by the Institute. At the end, officers from information division, Reliance Foundation made the house aware about the services they are rendering towards agrarian community by dissemination of information. Miss Gayatri Moharana, Scientist proposed formal vote of thanks. The whole program was coordinated by the Outreach Project Team.
