1st International Extension Congress-2018 New Horizons of Extension: Challenges and Opportunities February 1-3, 2018 at ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India

1st International Extension Congress-2018 was organized by Orissa Society of Extension Education at ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar from 1-3 February, 2018 with a Vision of “Incessantly evolving and developing Extension Education–the Art and Science for meeting Challenges and Harnessing Opportunities” and with a Mission of “Providing platform to evolve and develop the subject based on the objective-oriented research related to identified theme areas and interaction among the Extension Professionals” with leadership of Dr. S.K. Srivastava, Director, ICAR-CIWA and Chairman of Local Organizing Committee. The organizing partners were: ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar, ICAR-National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar and Bisra Agriculture University, Ranchi while ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi and Academy of Extension Sciences were Congress collaborators. The Inaugural programme was held on 2nd February 2018 in which Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Hon'ble Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Dr. Mohapatra highlighted the importance of Extension as the base of research for development in Agriculture. He also highlighted the importance of ICAR-CIWA as the only institute working for the empowerment of women in agriculture, Globally. Dr A. K. Singh, President of the Congress and DDG, (Agril. Extn.), ICAR, New Delhi, Dr. J. K. Jena, DDG, (Fisheries and AH), ICAR, New Delhi, Prof. S. Pasupalak, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, OUAT, Bhubaneswar and Dr. Saurabh Garg, IAS, Principal Secretary (Agriculture), Govt. of Odisha were the Guests of Honour. The entire programme was distributed into ten technical sessions in which emerging challenges and innovative approaches in extension, advancements and futuristic assessment of core areas of extension, envisioning extension in changing context of agriculture and society, professionalism and ethics in extension to several other themes were discussed through interactive presentations and panel discussions. The concluding technical session was based upon interface among all the stakeholders. Besides, the programme was graced by several delegates in the field of agriculture and allied disciplines from within and outside India. The programme was attended by various Professionals including Scientists, Policy makers, Extension Personnel and Students from the country as well as abroad. The event ended with the Valedictory programme where Dr. A.K. Srivastava, Hon'ble Chairman, ASRB, New Delhi graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Dr. Srivastava signified the importance of Extension in bringing Green Revolution in India and its role for development of livestock sector. Prof D.P. Ray, Former Vice Chancellor, OUAT, Bhubaneswar was the Guest of Honour. Dr. A.K. Singh, DDG (Agril. Extn.), ICAR, New Delhi had presided over the Inaugural and Valedictory Sessions while Dr. S.K. Srivastava, Director, ICAR-CIWA offered vote of thanks during both the occasions. On the eve of Congress, 20 nos. of exhibition stalls were arranged to display the newly emerging extension technologies of ICAR/SAUs. Total 11 participants were awarded including 10 best poster presentation and one best Ph.D. colloquium.
