ICAR-CIWA empowered women farmers from Uttar Pradesh through training cum capacity building programme

Women farmers from Uttar Pradesh were trained at ICAR-CIWA during a training programme entitled "Capacity Building of Farming Women" from 17-21 January, 2019. The programme was sponsored by State Institute for Management of Agriculture, Rehmankheda, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The training was attended by 18 participants comprising of 14 women farmers and 4 State Extension functionaries from UP. The objective of the programme was to improve the professional competence, upgrade the knowledge and develop technical skills of progressive farmwomen, extension workers and stakeholders working for empowerment of women in agriculture of Uttar Pradesh. The training offered a platform for women farmers to enhance their knowledge and skills in various farming techniques. The program was designed in such a manner that the women farmers got an all round exposure in various agriculture and allied fields in form of class room teaching, Group Discussions, Interactive sessions, Exposure visit, Field visit, and Demonstrations. The capacity building programme comprised of 16 theory classes and 1 Exposure visit covering all the agriculture and allied fields viz. Seed Production, Women friendly Horticultural interventions, Dairy farming, Family poultry, Aquaculture and fish processing, Quality Fodder Production, Family farming, Occupational Health Hazards at workplace, Women friendly farm tools and equipments, Family Resource Management, Food and Nutrition Security, Govt. Schemes and policies for farm women, Gender analysis tools and Farmer Producer Organization: Concepts & policies. The valedictory function was organized on 21 January, 2019, which was graced by Dr. S. K. Srivastava, Director ICAR-CIWA as Chief Guest. In his presidential address signified the importance of women farmers in doubling farm income by 2022. He highlighted that distressed sale in agriculture can be reduced by forming Farmer Producer Organizations and by linking with E-marketing portal for better remuneration for the farm produce. The participants were distributed with Certificates and Training Compendium upon successful completion of the training. The entire training was successfully accomplished by a team of scientific and technical staff comprising of Dr. Laxmipriya Sahoo, Dr. Jyoti Nayak, Ms. Ankita Sahu, Er. Subrat K. Das and Shri B.C. Sahu.
