ICAR-CIWA Celebrates International Women's Day on 8th March, 2019

ICAR- Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (ICAR-CIWA), Bhubaneswar celebrated International Women's Day on 8th March, 2019. Ms. Sneha Mishra, Secretary, AAINA was the Guest of Honour of the day. Live telecast of the address of the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi from Varanasi on the occasion of International Women’s Day was organised for the benefit of the staff of ICAR-CIWA. Dr. Tanuja S, Nodal Officer, delivered welcome address and briefed about the importance of the occasion. On this Occasion a lecture on Genesis of International women's day was delivered by Er. Chaitrali S. Mhatre and a lecture on Rules, laws and rights for Women in India was delivered by Dr. Tanuja S.

Ms. Sneha Mishra, Guest of Honour, in her address congratulated the institute for celebrating International Women's day and wished for the bright future of the institute. She stressed on the importance of the rights of the women and also appreciated the work done by the institute for the farm women. She explained the underlying meaning of the theme "Balance for Better" emphasising that if a positive change in the condition of women has to happen, and then there should be balance between both the genders in regards to responsibilities and opportunities of the life. She elaborated on the activities of AAINA, a voluntary organization which was established with the vision of working with the persons with disabilities, children and women who are vulnerable sections of the society. Adopting the inclusive approach, today the organisation has a deep rooted understanding and experience in Community Based Rehabilitation, with special focus on women empowerment, child rights, and promoting and strengthening People’s Organisations. She stressed upon the future collaboration between both organizations for achieving a common goal of empowering the women.

Dr. Anil Kumar, Director I/C, ICAR-CIWA and Chief Guest in his address insisted the need for change in the attitude of the women emphasising they should have a go getter attitude and fight for their rights and for equality. He also stressed of the line of Simone de Beauvoir "One is not born but becomes a woman" The successful organization of the International Women's Day celebration was done by the following committee, Dr. Tanuja S, Nodal Officer; Er.
