Celebration under "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" by ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar

The ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (ICAR-CIWA) has organized the National level Campaign on “Food and Nutrition for Farmers” on the auspicious occasion of "Azadi Ka Amrut Mahostsav" on 26.8.2021 at Guapur village of Balipatna block under Khordha district of Odisha. On the event, the team sensitized the farm women regarding importance of celebration of 'Ajadi Ka Amrut Mahostsav' in the eve of 75 years of Indepence of India. During dialogue, the scientists highlighted the contribution and hard work of farm women in agriculture and the magnitude of food and nutritional security. In addition, the farm women were well-informed about the significance of vitamins, minerals, carbohydrate, protein, fat, etc. for their health. Tips were given to consume the balanced food in their daily diets followed by care of pregnant mothers, adolescent girls and new born babies. The farm women were also advised to take locally available vitamine rich fruits and vegetables. Created awreness to develop poultry units, mushroom, nutrition garden, etc. in their homesteads for easy availability nutrients. About 60 farm women had participated in the programme. At the end, the vegetable seeds (brinjal, cucumber, pumpkin, tomato, bean, spinach) and seedlings (mango, guava, lemon, drumstick) were distributed as critical inputs to grow in their backyards. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sabita Mishra, Dr. L. P. Sahoo and Shri B. C. Behera of the institute.
