Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: Training cum demonstration programme under SCSP

A Training cum demonstration programme on “Improved package of practices for higher yield and value addition in field crops” was organized for SC farm women from different villages of Icchupur and Bidhyadharpur gram panchayat in Nimapara block of Puridistrict under SCSP following COVID guidelines. Around 70 farmwomen and farmers participated in the programme. Block Development Officer of Nimapara Sh. Sudarshan Mallik presided over the programme and Dr. Sanjay Mohanty, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Sakhigopal was the Guest of Honour. Among 51 SC women beneficiaries ; 25 women farmers (crop, dairy, livestock and fisheries) were from two SHG namely ; Laxminursingha organizationfor livelihood (Secretary Smt. Gauripriya Mahapatra)from Ichhupur and Dalit VikasSamiti(Sh. PadmnabhSethi) from Bidhyadhrpur gram panchayats. At the outset, Dr. Praveen Jakhar welcomed all the dignitaries, participants and briefed about SCSP progarmme. He also briefed the important practices to be followed to get optimum yield of the kharif crops of the season. Sh. Mallik appreciated the effort of ICAR CIWA for its endeavor in empowering farm women form marginalized community. Dr. Sanjay Mohanty highlighted the contribution of two women SHG of the area in agriculturedevelopment. Dr. Sachidananda Swain gave a detailed account on value addition to avoid market glut and stressed upon the preparation of different value added products from marketable surplus as well as developing entrepreneurship among farm women. He also highlighted the scientific methods of preparation of different value added products from fruits and ready to serve products and can fetch maximum financial benefits by and linking those products to market. The programme was followed by the demonstration of battery operated sprayer to bring high efficiency in pest management as well as other drudgery reducing tools and implements. After the completion of the programme, farm women were satisfied with the demonstration and distribution programme. The training programme was coordinated by Dr. Praveen Jakhar and Dr. Sachidananda Swain of ICAR, Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar.
