Front Line Demonstration under SCSP progamme during Bharat ki Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

A Front Line Demonstration on “Hygienic fish drying using solar cabinet Dryer” was organized under the SCSP programme during the celebration of Bharat ki Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav on 1st December 2021 at village Kanamana, Astaranga Block, Puri District adopted under Institute project by ICAR- Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar. The programme was attended by 30 farm women belonging to different SHG groups. Assistant Fisheries Officers of Astaranga and Kakatpur blocks, Block Programme Co-ordinators of Mission Shakti and progressive farmers of the village also attended the programme. On this occasion, two solar cabinet dryers and two Aluminium foil sealing machines were handed over to the women SHG groups. Dr Tanuja S, Scientist (Fish Processing Technology) explained the importance and scope of value addition of fish as an entrepreneurial option for rural women. The significance of hygienic handling and processing of fish was also stressed by the speaker. A demonstration on the use of Solar Cabinet Dryer for hygienic drying of fish and prawn was done by the ICAR-CIWA team. Dr. Biswanath Sahoo, Principal Scientist (Animal Nutrition) explained the need for livestock rearing to supplement household income and highlighted the importance of dairy and goat farming. The Assistant Fisheries Officers Shri Muralidhar Parida and Ms Mitali Sahoo gave an account of the various government schemes available for women entrepreneurs. The need for formation of producer groups and development of market linkage with ORMAS were highlighted by Smt Nibeditata, Block Programme Co-ordinator, Mission Shakti.
