National Workshop on Mitigating Drudgery of Farm Women: Adoption of Gender Friendly Technologies
(15-16 September, 2016)

A two days National Level Workshop was conducted on “Mitigating Drudgery of Farm Women: Adoption of Gender Friendly Technologies” during 15-16 September, 2016 at ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar. The workshop comprised of representatives from different fields working towards lessening the drudgery of farm women in India. It was a very enriching event of bringing together and sharing of experiences in order to understand the issue on the ground and also the actions that can facilitate it. More than 50 experts, participants, scientists from different parts of India participated. Director, ICAR-CIWA, Dr. Jatinder Kishtwaria, welcomed and opened the workshop with her introductory address. Mrs. Sujata R. Karthikeyan, Commissioner cum Director, Watershed Mission, Director of Soil Conservation, Watershed Development, Govt. of Odisha was Guest of Honour; Prof. Surendranath Pasupalak, Vice Chancellor, OUAT, Bhubaneswar was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Vote of Thanks was given by Dr. Jyoti Nayak, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CIWA. Eminent scientists and experts such as Dr. L.P Gite, Dr. C.R. Mehta, Dr. Deepa Vinay, Dr. Suman Singh, Dr. Vijay Aware, Dr. M.R. Kammar and Dr. S.K. Mohanty contributed immensely in putting forth their ideas regarding designing and development of women friendly agricultural tools. There were eminent practitioners from ICAR-CIWA and other government agencies such as Shri S.D. Kalyanshetti, MYRADA and Shri P.K. Mohapatra, DGM, NABARD. Ms. Gayatri Moharana, Dr. Jyoti Nayak, ICAR-CIWA, Shri Debasish Mohapatra, Traidcraft India- Supply Chain Specialist; Shri Kartikeya Panigrahi, Madhyam Foundation; Shri M.R. Anup Kishore, Green Army, Kerala; Smt. Pratima Mishra and Smt. Sujata Barik, IMC Member of ICAR-CIWA threw light on the intensity of the problem and the extension gap regarding drudgery reduction of farm women. In this workshop the topics covered were improving productivity of farm mechanisation; women friendly farm tools and equipment for drudgery reduction; design, development, refinement and evaluation of women friendly technology and extension strategies to address drudgery of farm women etc. There was a great synergy created when all this persons came together to discuss and churn out models for drudgery reduction of farm women.
