ICAR Sponsored Short Course on "Empowerment of Farm Women through Livestock and Poultry Interventions Organized at ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar

The ICAR Sponsored Short Course on "Empowerment of Farm Women through Livestock and Poultry Interventions" was organized during 21-30 November, 2016 at ICAR-CIWA Bhubaneswar. The programme was inaugurated by the Chief guest Dr. Jatinder Kishtwaria, Director, ICAR-CIWA in the presence of guest of honour Dr. R. C. Patra, Dean, CVSc &AH, OUAT, Bhubaneswar. The course was organized by Dr. A. K. Panda, Principal Scientist & Course Director and Course coordinators Dr. Anil Kumar, Dr. B. Sahoo, Dr. Tanuja, S. Eighteen participants (9 men and 9 women) from across the country participated in the short course. A total of 32 theory and practical classes were covered on various aspects like "Gender Issues in Livestock and Poultry Sector, Food and Nutritional Security Through Animal Agriculture, Livelihood Improvement of Farm Women Through Livestock Farming, Women Empowerment and Livelihood Security Through Small Ruminant Production, Extension Strategies for Socio Economic Empowerment of Women Through Livestock Farming, Family Poultry for Poverty Alleviation and Gender Equity in India, Drudgery and Ergonomics in Animal Farming : Implications for Women, Entrepreneurship Development Through Livestock and Poultry Farming and Climate Resilient Livestock Production. The participants also made exposure visit to local ICAR institutes in Bhubaneswar and field visit to ICAR-CIWA adopted village. The Valedictory function was organised on 30.11.2016 which was graced by Chief guest Dr. L. K. Babu, Dean Students' Welfare, OUAT, Bhubaneswar and Dr. Jatinder Kishtwaria, Director, ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar.
