ICAR- Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar organized a three-day Capacity Building Programme on Fish processing and Value Addition from 25-27 July 2024 at ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar under Scheduled Caste Sub Plan. The programme was attended by fifteen SC women farmers from Kirtaniajalpahi Village, Bhograi Block, Balasore District. The farmers were extensively trained on the hygienic handling of fish/shell fish and the preparation of various value-added fish products like hygienic dry fish and prawn, prawn pickle, fish cutlet, prawn papad and fish silage. They were also made aware of the importance of packaging and FSSAI licensing to ensure wider and sustainable marketing of the products. The women were exposed to the different entrepreneurial opportunities existing in agriculture and allied sectors through exposure visits to the different demonstration units like goat poultry aquaculture, bioresource, mushroom etc. An MoA was signed between ICAR-CIWA and Maa Tareni SHG group of Kirtaniajalpahi Village, Bhograi Block, Balasore District for establishing a Custom Hiring Centre on Fish processing and Value Addition under SCSP on 27 July 2024. Dr. (Mrs.) Mridula Devi, Director ICAR-CIWA emphasized on the importance of adopting multiple livelihood options to diversify their income sources and urged them to utilize the facilities provided through CHC optimally for improving their livelihood. The programme was co-ordinated by Dr Tanuja S, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CIWA and technical assistance was provided by Shri. Sanjay Kumar Behera, Senior Technical Assistant, ICAR-CIWA. |
