ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar celebrated ‘Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan Week’

The multidisciplinary team of ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar organised scientist-farmer interface, debate competition for farmwomen and quiz competition for children as a part of celebration of ‘Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan Week’ in village Kadua on 26th December, 2015. Mrs. Kanaklata Behera, Samitee Sabhya, Kadua was the Chief Guest. The programme was attended by more than 50 farmwomen and 30 children of Kadua, Talapatna, Chanagouda, Bila Sahi and Behera Sahi villages of Puri district. The Chief Guest lighted the lamp and inaugurated the function followed by the welcome address given by Mrs. Kanaklata Panda. The programme was started by the children’s dance on patriotic song. Dr. S. K. Srivastava, Director, ICAR-CIWA briefed the importance of celebrating ‘Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan Week’ and gave elaborative deliberation on role of ICAR-CIWA in gender mainstreaming and women empowerment. Dr. Jyoti Nayak, Senior Scientist highlighted the importance of nutrition and sanitation for the farmwomen. The debate competition for farmwomen on “Women Leadership- Needed or not needed” and agricultural quiz competition for children were organized. About 20 farmwomen and 25 children were participated in the competitions. Dr. Jyoti Nayak (Senior Scientist) and Dr. S. Tanuja (Scientist) were the judges for these competitions. Mrs. Geeta Saha (Technical Officer) coordinated the competitions for farmwomen and children. Mrs. Kanaklata Panda, Mrs. Parbati Mohapatra and Mrs. Binati Parida were first three winners of the debate competition. Mr. Basudev Behera, Miss Kajal Parida and Miss Mitali Rout were first three winners of the quiz competition. Ten consolation prizes for farmwomen and 17 consolation prizes along with first three winner prizes for children were given at the venue. The first three winners of farmwomen’s debate competition will be awarded on 29th December, 2015 at concluding function of ‘Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan Week’ at ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar. The Chief Guest Mrs. Kanaklata Behera stressed upon the need for development of women leadership and its importance for empowering women in agriculture. She also motivated to the farmwomen for adoption of new scientific technologies to increase production and reduce drudgery.
