ICAR-CIWA Organizes Model Training Course on "Strengthening Farm Women Perspective in Quality Seed Production"

Directorate of Extension (Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, New Delhi) sponsored Model Training Course on "Strengthening Farm Women Perspective in Quality Seed Production" was organised for the State Agricultural Development personnel during January 11-18, 2017 at ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Jatinder Kishtwaria, Director, ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar. She highlighted the role of farm women in present agricultural scenario as well as in production, conservation and preservation of traditional seeds. Totally twenty-one participants (8 men and 13 women) from 10 States participated in the course. Totally 28 Experts delivered talk (Internal 14 and External 14) on different aspects of strengthening farm women perspective in quality seed production. During the course, Twenty-nine (theory- 23 and practical- 6) classes were conducted on various aspects like strategies to strengthen farm women perspective in quality seed production, present policy environment and access of farm women to seed, seed management for commercial horticulture, maintenance of plant genetic resources, rice seed production, concepts of seed management for sustainable agriculture, grains for tribal nutrition, addressing the seed needs of tribal women, seed production for tribal livelihood, institutionalizing farmer seed network- an innovative seed bank model, GM- cotton and farm women-a case study in Vidarbha, germplasm conservation farm, organic seed production farm, improving availability of quality pulse seed involving women, community nursery raising, gender perspective in agricultural research and development, seed and planting material production of tuber crops, seed quality management, community seed production for self utilization of farm women, gender concepts, women friendly ipm technologies for seed production and storage, extension strategies for mainstreaming farm women in seed production, women friendly farm tools and implements, assessment of drudgery and occupational health hazards to farm women and digitalization in agriculture The practical exposure visits to ICAR-NRRI (Cuttack) and ICAR-NBPGR (Cuttack also organised for the trainees. Trainees also visited germplasm conservation farm, Khorda and organic seed production farm, Kuhudi as well as adopted villages of ICAR-CIWA. The valedictory function organised on 18.01.2017 was graced by Dr. Jatinder Kishtwaria (Director, ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar), Dr. Ramanjaneyelu (Head & Founder of Centre for Sustainable Agriculture, Hyderabad) and Mr. Dipak Suchde (Progressive Farmer). They urged participants to take the learning's from the course to their respective domains and try to upscale it. The course coordinated by Dr. Laxmipriya Sahoo (Course Director), Dr. S.
