ICAR-CIWA organized Technology Demonstration Mela and Scientists-Farmer Interface on the occasion of Foundation day celebration

Technology Demonstration Mela and Scientists-Farmer Interface was organized at ICAR-CIWA on the occasion of Foundation day celebration on 23rd March, 2019. The function was graced by Shri Narendra Singh Rathore, Hon'ble DDG (Agricultural Education) ICAR, New Delhi as Chief Guest and Prof. Padmaja Mishra, Vice Chancellor Rama Devi Women University, Bhubaneswar as Guest of Honour. At the outset the Director of the Institute, Dr. S. K. Srivastava welcomed all the delegates and women farmers. Dr. Rathore during his address signified the potential role of ICAR-CIWA in mainstreaming women farmers for enhancing their empowerment. He emphasized that focus should be given upon enhancing the economic security of farm families through various women friendly profitable enterprises. Prof. P. Mishra highlighted the need of women empowerment in achieving economic stability, sustainability and profitability. The function was attended by 200 farm women from the Institute adopted villages covering Puri, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts of Odisha. The Technology Demonstration Mela offered women farmers a platform to know about various drudgery reducing women friendly small tools and equipments viz. Groundnut decorticator & stripper, Seed treatment drum, Seed driller, Fertilizer broadcaster, Maize de-husker cum sheller, Seed cleaner cum grader, Potato slicer, Coconut de-husker etc. Other technologies suitable for women like backyard poultry rearing, hygienic fish drying rack, value added fish products, paddy straw mushroom and planting material production of horticultural crops were displayed. Women friendly harvesting bag developed under AICRP on Ergonomics and Safety in Agriculture was also demonstrated and received positive reviews from all the stakeholders. The Scientists-Farmer Interface organized during the event enabled the women farmers to clarify their farming related queries by a team of Scientific and technical experts from the Institute. On this occasion, some of the progressive women farmers were also felicitated for their outstanding contributions in field of agriculture, horticulture, dairy farming, poultry, aquaculture, mushroom farming and bee-keeping. Additionally, the winners of Agriculture Education Day and staff personnel of ICAR-CIWA were also awarded during the event. The formal vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Sabita Mishra, Principal Scientist and Nodal Officer Foundation day ICAR-CIWA. The Technology Demonstration Mela was successfully co-ordinated by Er. Chaitrali S. Mhatre, Scientist & PI, AICRP on Ergonomics and Safety in Agriculture.
