ICAR-CIWA CELEBRATES NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY ON 28TH FEBRUARY, 2021

ICAR- Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (ICAR-CIWA), Bhubaneswar celebrated National Science Day on 28th February, 2021 in virtual mode. On this occasion, Dr. P. P. Mathur , Vice Chancellor, Birla Global University and Former Vice Chancellor KIIT University was the Chief Guest. The programme was attended by more than 60 participants like progressive farm women, students of universities across India and Staff of ICAR- CIWA.
As the program was organised in the virtual mode due to the ongoing pandemic, first time a “Virtual tour of ICAR-CIWA” was screened for the benefit of participants. Also on this occasion a first “Virtual Technology Demonstration Mela” was organised for the benefit of the farm women and students.
The program began with the invocation of ICAR Song. Er. Chaitrali S. Mhatre, Nodal Officer, delivered welcome address and briefed about the importance of the occasion.
Dr. P. P. Mathur, Chief Guest started with congratulating the institute for celebrating National Science Day. He briefed about the present scenario for Indian researched with context to publication and its impact. He urged the scientist to not only publish impactful papers but also strive to achieving the patents. He also elaborated the past and current National Science Policy insisting the need of increased budget and private partners in the research field. He advocated the “One Nation One Subscription” for increased access of research material. He congratulated the Institute for undertaking the huge task of working for the underrepresented section of agriculture i.e. the farm women.
Dr. S. K. Srivastava, Director ICAR-CIWA, addressed the gathering. He brought to light the fact that if soil, water and air is a common gift then, it is a common responsibility to conserve it for the better future. He insisted on efficient use of resources citing “more crops per drop”. He encouraged the students and scientist to harbour passion for innovation by giving examples of Padmashree R. Papammal. He also stated to be proud for adopting local technologies. He appealed the staff and participants to work for making village/ institute Atmanirbhar, which will contribute to make country Atmanirbhar. All should contribute with a sprit , for making Atmanirbhar India. Lastly he congratulated the team for creating a virtual tour of ICAR-CIWA and a successful technology demonstration mela.
