World Soil Day was celebrated Taraboisasan village of Icchupur gram panchayat in Nimapara block of Puri district. Dr. Sanjay Mohanty, Senior scientist and Head, KVK Sakhigopal, Puri was the Chief Guest in the programme. About 100 farm women from nearby villages participated in the programme. At the outset, Dr. Praveen Jakhar, welcomed all the dignitaries, participants and briefed about the importance of soil fertility for sustainable yields. Dr. Sanjay Mohanty appreciated the effort of ICAR CIWA for its endeavor in empowering farm women of the area. Dr. (Mrs.) Jyoti Nayak stressed on the importance of soil testing and organic farming among farm women. Dr. Swain highlighted about soil health card scheme and its utility. Dr. (Mrs.) D. Paramjita, KVK, Sakhigopal emphasized on the recycling of farm waste and its decomposition. The programme was followed by the frontline demonstration on soil sample collection and soil moisture measurement using modern tools developed by ICAR. Er. P. K. Rout gave a stepwise procedure for both the demonstration. After the completion of the programme, farm women showed their interest soil sample testing regularly.
