Field Day was organized at ICAR-CIWA on 22nd January 2022

Field Day was organized at ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar, Odisha on 22nd January 2022 which was attended by all the staff members of ICAR-CIWA. The Director, Dr Anil Kumar addressed the staff on the significance of organizing the event. He stressed on the need of exposure of the staff on different winter vegetables and their nutritional value.
The participants first visited the medicinal plants unit. The unit has 20 species of herbal medicinal plants. The medicinal value of the plants was discussed. The farm has also developed a unit of salad crops. The unit encompasses the salad crops like onion, garlic, radish, cucumber, carrot, beet, cabbage, knol khol, coriander, mint and exotic salad crops like red cabbage, broccoli, pok choy and lettuce. The salad crop unit created interest among the participants to grow them in their terrace garden. The nutrition garden developed in an area of 1.25 acre in the farm has 8 fruit species and 22 types of vegetables. In this unit, the participants got insight into cultivation of diverse crops for sustainable nutrition and soil health. The staff also visited vegetable seed production unit meant for catering to seed needs of nutri smart villages being developed under ICAR-CIWA. The fruit orchards, Multi storey cropping system, mixed cropping system, mango based cropping system and intercropping systems in the farm created awareness among all. The lawn and landscaping of the institute was also visited by the participants. The field day could generate awareness and impart knowledge among the staff of ICAR-CIWA. Everybody appreciated the efforts put by the farm development team in developing a clean and beautiful farm. These model units have been developed at CIWA campus For the benefit of visiting farmwomen to learn the new techniques for enhancing income and household nutrition. A large number of farmwomen visit the CIWA campus for training, capacity building programmes and exposure visits.
Officer in Charge-farm Sri Manoranjan Prusty and the members of Farm Development committee Dr Laxmipriya Sahoo, Dr Praveen Jakhar, Dr Sachidanand Swain, Er Chaitrali Mhatre, Sri Bhikari Charan Behera coordinated the programme.
