Skill Capacity building programme organized at Kabirpur, Jajpur, Odisha by ICAR-CIWA

ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture organized a skill based capacity building programme on Women Entrepreneurship through Improved Small Scale Goatery and Poultry Farming in collaboration with Taradevi FPO at Kabirpur, Jajpur, Odisha on 9th March 2022 following COVID guidelines. The programme began with welcome address by Dr. A.K. Panda, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIWA. In his address, Dr. A.K. Panda gave a brief orientation about the programme and highlighted the importance of small scale goatery and poultry for strengthening the livelihood of farm women. Dr. S.R. Panda, DGM, NABARD, Bhubaneswar, was the Chief Guest in the programme. In his speech, the chief guest informed about the various programmes of NABARD for the benefit of famers. Dr. B. Sahoo, Principal Scientist, ICAR-CIWA discussed about the role of small scale goatery on enhancing the income of farm families. He stressed on the scientific management practices, proper feeding and gave more importance on fodder for making goat farming more profitable. Dr. A.K. Panda, highlighted the importance of small scale poultry rearing on enhancing household income and nutrition. He advised the farm women to follow improved management practices to increase the production from poultry. Dr. B.K. Sahoo, Deputy Director (AH Dept.), Jajpur discussed about various diseases of economic importance such as PPR, Goat Pox and Enterotoxemia in goats and Ranikhet disease in Poultry. He advised the farmers to vaccinate the animals in time for preventing the diseases. Dr. Jyoti Mohanty (AVAS), District Vety Hospital, Jajpur highlighted the schemes in AH sector of Govt. of Odisha for improving the livelihood of farm women. The efforts made by ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar for promoting agirentrepreneurship was highly appreciated by Mrs. Saraswati Bal, President of FPO, Taradevi, Jajpur. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr. B. Sahoo. About 60 farm women, besides representatives from NABARD, Veterinary department, Saheli (NGO) attended the programme. The programme was organized as a part of Bharat ki Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate 75 years of India's Independence.
