Training on “Improved Management Practices in Goat Rearing for enhancing Income of Farm Women” organized at Jajpur, Odisha under SCSP

Under the institute research project "Development of Women Entrepreneurship in Livestock and Fisheries Sector for Promoting Gender Equity and Strengthening Livelihood, a training programme on “Improved Management Practices in Goat Rearing for enhancing Income of Farm Women” was organized at Jajpur, Odisha on 21.03.2022 following COVID guidelines. The programme began with welcome address by Dr. A. K. Panda, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-CIWA. Dr. Padmanava Dash, Chief District Veterinary Officer, Jajpur was the Chief Guest. In his address, the chief guest appreciated the efforts of the scientists of ICAR-CIWA for conducting the training programme and advised the farm women to take the full benefits ofthprogamme. Dr. Praveen Jakhar, Senior Scientist and Nodal SCSP highlighted the purpose of the SCSP programme. Dr A. K, Panda, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-CIWA discussed about the role of goatery on the livelihood of farm women and suggested to follow improved management practices for higher growth and more return. Dr B. Sahoo, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-CIWA emphasized on balanced feeding and advised the farmers for fodder cultivation to reduce the cost of production. He also advised the farm women to supplement concentrate and mineral mixture in goat feeding. Dr. Bijay Kumar Sahoo, Deputy Director and Dr. Biswambar Das, ADVO, Jajpur discussed about various diseases of goats, their preventive measures and advised to go for timely vaccination. About thirty participants participated in the training programme. After the training programme, two female goats were distributed to each of the selected nine farm women in the project adopted villages under the SCSP scheme. Mr. Prabhat Kumar Nayak, FAO, ICAR-CIWA advised the farm women to keep the records and provide information to ICAR-CIWA regularly. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Jyoti Ranjan Mohanty, AVAS, Jajpur. The programme was organised as a part of Bharat ki Azadi ka Amrit Mahostav to commemorate 75 years of India's Independence.
