Organization of the poshan mela, a campaign Annadata Devo bhava under azadi ka amrit mahotsava under the project "Nutrition Smart Villages: An Innovative Model for Strengthening Poshan Abhiyan at ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar

ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar organized a Poshan Mela on 22nd April 2022, a campaign Annadata Devo Bhava under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava wherein 250 farmwomen from 10 villages adopted under Nutri- Smart Village Project participated along with staff of ICAR-CIWA. The programme was intended for creating awareness among the farmwomen beneficiaries of the 10 Nutri Smart Villages being developed under the project “Nutrition Smart Villages: An Innovative Model for Strengthening Poshan Abhiyan “. Development of 10 Nutri Smart Villages was taken up by ICAR-CIWA after launching of "Nutri Smart Villages: An Innovative Model for Strengthening Poshan Abhiyan" by Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Shri Narendra Singh Tomarji through virtual mode on 10.11.2021 witnessed by 200 farm women representing 10 villages of 4 districts like Khordha, Puri, Cuttack & Jagatsingpur of Odisha. The Poshan Mela was inaugurated at 11 AM on 22.04.2022 with the invocation of ICAR song. Dr Jyoti nayak, Nodal Officer of the celebration welcomed the dignitaries and participants. Dr Sabita Mishra, Director In-Charge, ICAR-CIWA in her address emphasized the importance of programme like, Poshan Mela in creating awareness in health and nutrition among the participants. She also emphasized on the endeavor of ICAR-CIWA in addressing the issues and constraints of rural women in achieving health and nutrition of the farm families. Professor P.J. Mishra, Dean Extension of Orissa University of Agriculture Technology and Chief Guest of the inaugural function expressed his satisfaction on the efforts of ICAR-CIWA in conducting Poshan Mela and appraised the participants about different food types providing nutrition. He expressed his interest for collaboration of ICAR-CIWA with Krishi Vigyan Kendras for realizing the goal of Poshan Abhiyan. Dr Arun Kumar Panda, Principal Scientist delivered the formal vote of thanks. In the technical session, the participants took part in the Farmers-Scientists Interaction in which five lectures were delivered and queries were answered. In the Farmers- Scientists Interaction, the scientists of ICAR- CIWA participated as resource persons and discussed the topics like addressing family food security through backyard poultry rearing, strengthening nutrition security of farm families through nutri-sensitive agriculture, eradicating malnutrition through dairy and goat rearing, enhancing nutritional security through nutrition garden and preserving nutritive value during food preparation to enhance dietary needs.
On this occasion, a technology demonstration was organized on nutrition garden, value addition, women friendly tools and implements by Sri. Manoranjan Prusty, Dr. Sachidanand Swain, Dr. Tanuja S, MS chaitrali S Mhatre respectively. The farm women participants exhibited more than 100 nutritious recipes made by them from locally available ingredients. The programme was a great success and the farm women representatives from different villages were benefited both in knowledge and practice by being a witness of the grand Poshan Mela.  
The above programme was successfully organized by Dr Jyoti Nayak, Principal Investigator, Nutri-Smart Village project and Co- Principal Investigators, Dr Arun Kumar Panda, Dr Laxmipriya Sahoo, Dr Tanuja S and presided by Dr Sabita Mishra, Director, In Charge, ICAR-CIWA. The experts for Farmers- Scientist Interface were Dr A.K.Panda, Dr Lipi Das, Dr Biswanath Sahoo, Dr Laxmipriya Sahoo and Dr Jyoti Nayak.
