Training cum Demonstration Programme on “Improved Management Practices in Family Poultry Farming for Higher Income and Nutrition and Distribution of Inputs to Women SC Farmers at Olikana, Niampada, Odisha

ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar organized a Training cum Demonstration Programme on “Improved management practices in family poultry farming for higher income and nutrition” on 30th December, 2022 at Olikana village of Nimapara block, Puri district of Odisha under SCSP programme. Dr. Arun Kumar Panda, Principal Scientist, highlighted the importance of family poultry farming on livelihood improvement and household nutrition of farm families. He advised the farm women to follow improved management practices for higher production and income through family poultry farming. He discussed about the selection of appropriate varieties of chicken, proper housing, supplementary feeding, timely vaccination and day to day care, which are highly essential to make family poultry production a successful enterprise. Various poultry equipments and their uses were demonstrated to the farm women during the training. About forty farm women participated in the programme. At the end of the programme, 20 chicks, 5kg feed, one feeder and one waterer were distributed to each 40 selected SC farm women beneficiaries under the SCSP Programme. The programme was coordinated by Dr. A. K. Panda, Principal Scientist, and Er. Pragati Rout, Senior Technical Assistant of the institute.
