ICAR- Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (ICAR-CIWA), Bhubaneswar celebrated Krishi Machinery Mohotsav-2023 on 6th February, 2023 under AICRP on ESA in Village-Kunjar, Block-Pipili, and District- Puri, Odisha. On this occasion an awareness generation programme and demonstration of women friendly tools was organised for benefit of the stakeholders. Awareness was generated for use of women friendly tools to reduce the drudgery of farm women during various farm operations. Tools like seed treatment drum, 8 row paddy marker, 4 row direct paddy seeder, cono-weeder, mandwa weeder, sprayer, automatic battery operated sprayer, improved sickle, power operated paddy thresher cum winnower were showcased to the farm women. Dr. Mridula Devi, Director ICAR-CIWA, during her presidential talk insisted the need of change in the attitude of the women emphasising the need to adopt, advanced processing technologies, machinery and developing entrepreneurs for empowerment of women. She encouraged on adopting millets in their diet and enterprises as a part of “International Year of Millets” initiative. Dr. Jyoti Nayak, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-CIWA encouraged the farm women to work in harmony and briefed them regarding various value addition techniques such as badi, jam, jelly, squash preparation. On this occasion a Custom Hiring Centre of women friendly tools was established through funding from the SCSP scheme for economic benefits and overall socio-economic upliftment of the women of the village. The MoA for the CHC was signed between ICAR-CIWA and NAGESWARI Women Self Help Group, Kunjar, Pipili block of Puri district Odisha for the management of the CHC at village level. Er. Chaitrali Mhatre, demonstrated the usage of tools and equipment which were given in the custom hiring centre. These tools and equipments were chosen after careful study of the village’s cropping pattern and involvement of women in various agricultural activities under her institute project.
