ICAR- Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (ICAR-CIWA), Bhubaneswar celebrated National Science Day-2023 on 28th February, 2023 in Government High School, Rental Colony, C.R.P., Baramunda, Bhubaneswar. The programme was attended by 50 school students, teachers and other staff from the School. The focal theme of this year for NSD was “Global Science for Global Wellbeing”. A slogan writing competition was conducted in the school on the topic “Women in Agriculture in a Global Paradigm”. The inaugural session began with the invocation of Saraswati Vandana by school students. Dr. Jyoti Nayak, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-CIWA, in her address, enlightened on the importance of science in daily lives and invocated healthy eating habits for students especially the inclusion of millets in their diet citing the international year of millets. She congratulated the winners of the slogan writing competition. Er. Chaitrali S Mhatre, Nodal Officer, delivered welcome address. She briefed about the importance of the National science day and the theme “Global Science for Global Wellbeing”. She elaborated that in present times the whole world should act as one for its wellbeing. She stressed upon this issue by citing the example regarding the sharing of vaccines by our country with other countries in the recent Covid-19 pandemic. She also highlighted the important work ICAR-CIWA is doing on national and international level. Dr. Arpita Mohapatra, Scientist, ICAR-CIWA inspired the students to take up agriculture as their vocation by highlighting the role “green revolution”, white revolution”, “blue revolution”, etc has played in nation building. She also stated the model village concept that ICAR-CIWA is establishing in the villages of Odisha. The principal of the school Mr. Bijay Mohpatra appreciated the involvement of ICAR-CIWA in the upliftment of women in agriculture and its interest in the wellbeing of the school children. The winners of slogan writing competition were felicitated with prizes. The successful organization of the National Science Day-2023 was coordinated by, Er.
