ICAR-CIWA organised Skill-based capacity building programme on Improved Goat Farming and distribution of goats under SCSP programme

A Skill-based capacity building programme on Development of Women Entrepreneurship in Livestock and fisheries sector for promoting gender equity and Strengthening livelihood was organized at Sarat, Balipatna and Sagada, Nimapara on 23rd March, 2023. At the outset, Dr Biswanath Sahoo, Pr. Scientist welcomed the participants and briefed the objectivities and activities of the programme. Dr Arun kumar Panda, Pr. Scientist highlighted on empowering farm women through small scale goat farming and developing homestead nutri garden in integrated farming system approach. Dr Sahoo emphasized upon various ongoing schemes in Animal husbandry sector and urged the participants to be benefited through SHG and FPOs (Maheera) for development of women entrepreneurship through goat farming. Keeping in view the breed upgradation, black bengal bucks (9) and 3 doe were distributed to SC beneficiaries for livelihood support of farm women involved in small scale goat farming in Balipatna and Nimapara block. One animal health camp was organised and various diseases, their preventive and ameliorative measures were detailed during the programme. The veterinary medicines, dewormer for about 300 goats were given to farmers. The farmers were advised to ensure vaccination of goats from most prevelent infectious diseases i.e PPR, goat pox, Haemorrhagic septiciemia and Entero toxeamia, Foot mouth disease etc. Small tools under SCSP programme were also distributed to SC beneficiaries. The programme was coordinated by Dr B. Sahoo, Dr A.K.Panda and Shri S.K.Behera and ended with vote of thanks by Smt. Kumudini Swain, President, FPO (Maheera).
