ICAR-CIWA Organised Awareness Programme on “Promoting Women’s Response to Climate Change in Distressed Areas of India” under CIWA- ILRI Collaborative Project

ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar organised an awareness Programme on "Promoting Women’s Response to Climate Change" under CIWA-ILRI collaborative project on “Gender-Livestock-Climate Analytic Approach (GLCAA) for livelihood improvement in distressed areas of India” for women dairy farmers of Kathakoth village of Kujanga block, Jagatsinghpur, Odisha on 23 August 2023. The women of this village mainly rely on dairy farming for their livelihood and this village is highly prone to natural disasters like cyclone and flood every year. This field day was conducted to comprehend the losses a woman dairy farmer incurs during these disastrous situations and create awareness among these stakeholders to adopt advance scientific disaster management measures to lessen the magnitude of loss. The Block Agricultural Officer, Dr. Pradosh Kumar Behera, Village Agricultural Officer, Sri Sanjay Kumar and Krishak Sathi, Sri Ranjan Kumar along with 40 women dairy farmers participated in the programme. Dr. Arun Kumar Panda, Principal Scientist and PI of the Project highlighted the adverse impact of climate change on the livestock production system. He further explained how women are more vulnerable to climate change compared to men. Dr. Arpita Mohapatra, Scientist and Co PI of the project explained the women friendly scientific disaster management tools and techniques to lessen the vulnerability in livestock production. Sri Sanjay Kumar Behera, Senior Technical Assistant, highlighted the significance of ICAR-CIWA for livelihood of women farmers.
