ICAR-CIWA organised Training Programme on Improved Goat Farming and Animal Health camp under SCSP at Balipatna, Khurda

ICAR-CIWA organized Training Programme on "Supporting women's economic empowerment through Improved goat rearing" and animal health camp under SCSP programme for creating awareness and healthcare of livestock at Srirampur, Balipatna, Khurda on 01.09.2023. At the outset, the animal health camp was conducted by the team consisting of Dr Arun Kumar Panda, Pr. Scientist, Dr Biswanath Sahoo, Pr. Scientist and Dr. Durman kumar Behera, Block Veterinary officer, Balipatna with active cooperation of local livestock inspectors and pranimitra. About 258 goats, 5 cows were treated during the health camp against PPR, contagious ecthyma, indigestion, anorexia, enterotoxemia, theliriasis, hypocalcemia, ticks, mites infestation, repeat breeding, and other reproductive disorders. The farm women were advised to ensure vaccination of goats from most prevelent infectious diseases i.e PPR, goat pox, Haemorrhagic septiciemia and Entero-toxeamia, Foot mouth disease etc. During the animal health camp, various diseases, their preventive and ameliorative measures were discussed and accordingly medicines, dewormer were given to women farmers.
After the health camp, a training programme on empowering farm women through improved goat rearing, poultry farming along with awareness on various govt. schemes in animal husbandry and their benefits to farm women were discussed. About 55 participants including 42 farm women and 13 men of SC community attended this programme. Mrs Jhilli Bhoi, Panchayat nominee, Smt. Kumudini Swain chairperson, Maheera (FPO), and Sh. Nimai Nayak, marketing manager of FPO, Maheera, Sh D.N. Choudhary, Dairy entrepreneur and Sh. Tushar Pradhan, goat entrepreneur, availing the dairy entrepreneurial scheme from MKUY Yojana actively participated and appreciated the awareness and sensitization programme about various schemes in livestock sector for the benefit of farm women. The programme was coordinated by Dr. B. Sahoo, Pr. Scientist, Dr A.K. Panda Pr. Scientist and Sh. Gautama Parida (YP) of ICAR-CIWA.
