The ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (ICAR-CIWA), Bhubaneswar, celebrated the International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2025. This year marked the 11th International Day of Yoga, with the theme ‘Yoga for one Earth and one Health’. The theme emphasizes global participation in yoga as a means of fostering environmental sustainability and promoting collective health. Observed annually on June 21, International Yoga Day aims to raise awareness about yoga’s holistic contribution to physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The United Nations General Assembly officially recognized this day in 2014, following a proposal by India’s Prime Minister. The date coincides with the summer solstice, which holds spiritual significance in many cultures.
During the programme, the importance of achieving balance in life through regular yoga practice was highlighted. Staff members were encouraged to embrace yoga as part of their daily routine to reduce stress, improve health, and enhance workplace productivity. A series of yoga asanas and pranayama sessions were conducted under the expert guidance of Yogacharya Shri Deen Bandhu Sarangi and Shri Biswaranjan Rath, following the Common Yoga Protocol. All scientific, technical, administrative staff, as well as Young Professionals (YP), Senior Research Fellows (SRF), and outsourcing staffs actively participated with great enthusiasm. The yoga instructors also addressed questions from participants, elaborating on how specific yoga practices benefit both physical and mental health.
