Three days Capacity Building Programme on Processing & Value Addition of Horticultural Crops through Custom Hiring Centre

The ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar organized a three days capacity building programme on “Processing & Value Addition of Horticultural Crops” through Custom Hiring Centre (CHC) during 22–24 July 2025 under Scheduled Caste Sub Plan Programme at Muninda village of Delang block of Puri district of Odisha. The objective of the capacity building programme was to provide participants practical training, technical know-how for operating and maintaining equipment and in-depth understanding of the processing and value addition of horticultural crops. Over the course of the three days, the members of Santoshi Mahila Vikas Samiti (FIG) were sensitized about the advantages and functioning of CHCs and role of WFIGs/WSHGs in successful implementation of CHCs, importance of value addition of horticultural crops, benefits of processing equipments for drudgery reduction, record keeping etc. to support agri-preneurship as a profession for enhanced income and livelihood improvement of farmwomen. The trainees received practical demonstration and hands on training on how to operate spice pulverizer, automatic potato peeler, vegetable shredder, weighing machine and heat sealing machine for processing, packaging and labeling of the products. These efforts reflect ICAR-CIWA’s commitment to empowering farmwomen and promoting agri-entrepreneurship. The establishment of the CHC will help in economic benefits and overall socio-economic upliftment of the Santoshi Mahila Vikas Samiti (FIG) and farmers/farm families of the village and adjacent area. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Tania Seth, Scientist (Vegetable Science), ICAR-CIWA.
