Online lecture organized on “ Forest Rights – A Legal Perspective of Indigenous Peoples' Right to Agriculture”

An invited online lecture on “ Forest Rights – A Legal Perspective of Indigenous Peoples' Right to Agriculture”. was organised for the benefit of the staff of ICAR-CIWA on 16th September 2020 in connection with the observation of Constitution Day and Citizens’ Duties Campaign (26th November 2019- 26th November 2020). The online lecture started with welcome address by Dr. Tanuja S. Nodal Officer, Constitution day and Citizens Duties Campaign. The Director of the Institute Dr. S. K. Srivastava addressed the staff members in his speech shedding light on the important role the indigenous peoples have played in preserving the forest and the environment of the country. Dr. Kumarjeeb Pegu, Assistant Professor of Law at School of Law, KIIT-Deemed to be University delivered the lecture in detail highlighting the historical past and the relation between the forest and indigenous people. He also covered many issues pertaining to various Laws and their course of existence and how it has helped the indigenous people to save their homes, livelihood, culture and identity. Towards the end of the webinar he also addressed various queries, concerning the topic, raised by the staff members. The webinar ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Tanuja S. The conduct of the online lecture was coordinated by Dr. Ananta Sarkar, Er Subrat Kumar Das and Mr Atul Chetan Hemrom.
