Scientists- Farmers interaction Meet organized at Keonjhar

The Directorate of Research on Women in Agriculture (DRWA) Bhubaneswar organized a Scientist- Farmers Interaction at village Padmapur in Keonjhar district of Odisha on 22nd August, 2013 under the project “Enhancing productivity of fruit based cropping models for income generation of farmwomen,” with an aim to understand the problem of farmers in cultivating horticultural crops and to bridge the technological gap among farmwomen.Dr. A.K. Shukla and Dr. Naresh Babu, Principal Scientists of DRWA highlighted the importance of technological intervention like improved varieties, seed treatment, seedling raising techniques, soil testing, crop diversification, stage of harvesting, grading, packaging and

linkages of marketing for enhancing crop productivity and getting remunerative price of produce.During the interaction, farmers need quality planting materials and seeds besides the technological support for crop production and post harvest handling.Further some of the farmers of the groups were linked with outlets of retail marketing chains at the Bhubaneswar for marketing their produce. Critical inputs like seeds of improved varieties of okra, tomato; chili, harvesting tools for okra and green net shade cum insect proof net were distributed to the farmer to initiate the work. The programme was assisted by Mr. Manoranjan Prusty and Mrs Tapaswini Sahoo, Technical Assistants of the Directorate. More than 30 farmers including farmwomen and Chairman of Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Anandapur block of Keonjhar district Mr. Abhay Kumar Sahoo participated in this event.
