Front Line Demonstration on Composite Fish Farming

A Front Line Demonstration on “Composite Fish Farming” was organized on 23 February 2022 at Village Kanjia, Satyabadi Block, Puri District adopted under Institute project “Development of nutri smart villages for food security and dietary diversity for combating malnutrition” by ICAR- Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar. During the programme, 25000 numbers of Indian Major Carp fingerlings procured from National Fresh water Fish Brood Bank, Bhubaneswar were distributed to the 25 homestead pond holders. The programme was co-ordinated by Dr Jyoti Nayak, Dr Tanuja S and Er. Subart Kumar Das. Dr Jyoti Nayak explained about the pertinence of the project in eradicating malnutrition and improving nutritional and food security of farm families. She stressed on the importance of proper nutrition of adolescent girls and pregnant women. Dr Tanuja S detailed about the water quality management after stocking of fish fingerlings. The farmers were also made aware of the importance of supplementary feeding for obtaining proper growth and yield. A demonstration on the proper stocking method of fish fingerlings was done by the ICAR-CIWA team during the programme. The programme was attended by 50 farmers and farmwomen.
