ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar organized a training programme on “Improved Goat Rearing for Livelihood Enhancement” under SCSP component on 17.03.2022 at Sribantapur in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha under institute research project "Development of Women Entrepreneurship in Livestock and Fisheries Sector for Promoting Gender Equity and Strengthening Livelihood following COVID guidelines. Dr. Praveen Jakhar, Senior Scientist and Nodal SCSP, highlighted the objectives of the SCSP scheme. Dr A. K, Panda, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-CIWA discussed about the role of small scale goatery on the livelihood of farm women. Dr B. Sahoo, Pr. Scientist, ICAR-CIWA emphasized on improved management practices and advised the farmers for fodder cultivation for making the goat farming a profitable enterprise. Dr. Banaj Kanta Pati, Veterinary Asst. Surgeon, Machhagaon, Jagatsinghpur, highlighted about the Diseases of economic importance of goat and preventive measures through timely vaccination and deworming. About thirty participants participated in the training programme. After the training programme, two female goats were distributed to each of the selected nine farm women in the project adopted villages under the SCSP scheme. Mr. Prabhat Kumar Nayak, FAO, ICAR-CIWA advised the farm women to maintain the records and provide information about the progress to ICAR-CIWA from time to time. The programme was organised as a part of Bharat ki Azadi ka Amrit Mahostav to commemorate 75 years of India's independence.
